A contemporary Lindy Hop event
Syncopated combines the historical Lindy Hop with the dance today in one evening. Lindy Hop is a couple dance of the 1930s of New York that goes through a revival since the 1980s. Nowadays, you can find it in any bigger town on all continents. For experienced Lindy Hop dancers, the weekend offers workshops with the well-known teachers Johnny Lloyd (co-founder of the Lindy Hop Scene in Bern) & Ksenia Parkhatskaya, Vincenzo Fesi and Alice Mei. In their workshop, they will give input on the historical version of the dance and give a insight on their modern vision of it. On Saturday evening, they will perform two shows, one in vintage and one of today.
The contemporary dance choreographer Marion Zurbach and the choreographic Duet Keller & Keller will be taught in Lindy Hop dance and history the weekend before the event. Within one week of rehearsals they will create a choreograpic deconstruction and create two 10 minutes miniatures. Lindy Hop is taken out of its historical context and used as a base to create something new and original.
The weekend is presented by Michael Wälti (Associated Artist of the Dampfzentrale) and the Dampfzentrale Bern.
